The patient must have a MED VISA – a separate category of visa called MEDICAL VISA issued by the Government of India meant for foreign patients. The MEDICAL ATTENDANT VISA is called the MEDX, and it allows only two persons to accompany the patient as attendants. Holding a Tourist VISA violates the Visa Rules of India if you have come here for medical treatment. Since the duration of treatment varies from case to case, the Medical Visa is extendable.
Patients on a MED VISA or attendants on a MEDX Visa have to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival. Pakistani nationals on a MED VISA or MEDX VISA have to register themselves with the DCP, Special Branch, Delhi Police Bhawan, Asaf Ali Road, Delhi, within 24 hours. Afghan Nationals shall register themselves with the FRRO, Delhi, within 7 days of arrival. This can be done through our PRO Office, telephone extension 1806 and 1807.
Visa extension is granted on the advice of the treating doctor, on his letterhead and duly signed by him, including a countersignature by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
